Parcells Wishes He Took The Job Last Year

In the 2007 NFL Draft the Dolphins surprised the whole league by passing up Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn with the 9th overall pick and instead taking Ohio State wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr. While Ginn has shown some playmaking ability and athleticism Bill Parcells has to be upset with the decision his predecessors made.

Think about it. Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis is from the Bill Parcells family tree of coaching. He said about Quinn that within 3 years he would be one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL. Quinn would make the Wildcat formation more dangerous to opposing defenses. He has more speed (better decoy) and a better arm than current quarterback Chad Pennington. In two years he has shown the work ethic and ability to be successful at his position in the NFL, with a skill set that is perfectly suited to a Parcells team.

The Dolphins last year drafted John Beck in the second round and Chad Henne in the second round this year. Both picks could have been used differently had Quinn been taken last year. When Beck was drafted receivers Sidney Rice, Dwayne Jarrett and Steve Smith were still available and would not have been reaches like Ginn was last year. This year, when Henne was drafted, players like Mario Manningham, Early Doucet, and linebacker Dan Connor were still available, and could have filled needs other than quarterback. By passing on Brady Quinn the Dolphins set themselves back at least a year, and ownership will have to own up to that mistake every time Quinn makes a Pro Bowl appearance with the Cleveland Browns.
